Some More Differences Between the KJV & the ESV Part 6

SOME MORE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE KJV & THE ESV Part 6

Scott G MacLeod

Please note that my comments are in blue.

EXAMPLE #1

John 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. (KJV)

John 6:47  Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. (ESV)

The New Age Movement loves this verse in the ESV, what bothers them is the clear statement in the KJV that everlasting life comes from believing ‘on Me’.

EXAMPLE #2

Acts 8:37  And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (KJV)

Acts 8:37  Omitted (ESV)

What amazes me, they don’t even change their verse numbers, they just jump from verse 36 to verse 38 as if that was a normal thing! Let’s be clear, the Bible clearly teaches that Salvation is only through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

EXAMPLE #3

1Corinthians 5:7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: (KJV)

1Corinthians 5:7  Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (ESV)

Why remove a clear statement as to who Christ died for?

EXAMPLE #4

1Peter 4:1  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (KJV)

1Peter 4:1  Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, (ESV)

Once again, why remove the statement as to who Christ died for?

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #5

Colossians 1:14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (KJV)

Colossians 1:14  in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (ESV)

A lot of the old Gospel hymns have been changed by removing the blood, I guess we need a Bible to go with the new hymn books!

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #6

Hebrews 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (KJV)

Hebrews 1:3  He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (ESV)

Why this phrase has to be removed is beyond me!

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #7

Matthew 18:11  For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. (KJV)

Matthew 18:11  Omitted (ESV)

I am glad that I can read this verse in the KJV, wonderful truth to know!

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #8

Luke 9:56  For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. (KJV)

Luke 9:56  And they went on to another village. (ESV)

The context of this expression is quite striking. The disciples would like to call down fire from Heaven upon the Samaritans for not receiving the Lord. How wonderful it is to hear the words of the Lord in His response to them.

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #9

Romans 10:15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (KJV)

Romans 10:15  And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (ESV)

Why in the world would they remove these words?

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #10

Matthew 25:13  Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (KJV)

Matthew 25:13  Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. (ESV)

The theme of the story contained in verse 1-12 is now applied to the coming of the Son of Man in verse 13. Why remove the phrase and miss the purpose of the story?

——————————————————————————————

EXAMPLE #11

Rev 5:14  And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. (KJV)

Rev 5:14  And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped. (ESV)

Why would anyone remove this lovely phrase? There are two nice thoughts to consider in this phrase, not only will the Lord Jesus Christ live forever, but we will be worshipping Him forever!
