EXAMPLE #1

John 9:35  Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? (KJV)

John 9:35  Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” (ESV)

Titles of the Lord Jesus Christ are very important, changing the ‘Son of God’ to ‘Son of Man’ makes a big difference! In the KJV the Deity of Christ is being emphasized, whereas, in the ESV the humanity of Christ is being emphasized. The weight of manuscript evidence favors the KJV. Also, all English Bibles up to and including the KJV translated the expression as ‘Son of God’. It is interesting to note, that no where in the KJV Bible are we told to believe in the ‘Son of Man’! We are told, at least 8 times, to believe in the ‘Son of God’!

EXAMPLE #2

Matthew 8:2  And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. (KJV)

Matthew 8:2  And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” (ESV)

If you were to look at the Greek word behind both of these English words, you would discover that they are the same word, meaning ‘to worship’. However, the ESV translators chose not to translate it as ‘worship’. Why?

EXAMPLE #3

Matthew 9:18  While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. (KJV)

Matthew 9:18  While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” (ESV)

They did the same thing here!

EXAMPLE #4

Matthew 15:25  Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.; (KJV)

Matthew 15:25  But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” (ESV)

 And here!

EXAMPLE #5

Matthew 20:20  Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.: (KJV)

Matthew 20:20  Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. (ESV)

And here!

EXAMPLE #6

Mark 5:6  But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, (KJV)

Mark 5:6  And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. (ESV)

And here! Why? As a simply reader of the Bible, I value every time that the Lord Jesus Christ is worshiped. In reading the KJV you will discover that the Lord Jesus Christ is worshiped 11 times in the Gospels, sad to read in the ESV that the Lord Jesus Christ is worshiped 6 times in the Gospels. Here is a list of the 11 times that He is worshiped in the Gospels using the KJV.  (Matthew 2:11, 8:2, 9:18, 14:33, 15:25, 20:20, 28:9, 28:17, Mark 5:6, Luke 24:52 and John 9:38)
