Some More Differences Between the KJV & the ESV Part 4

SOME MORE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE KJV & THE ESV Part 4

Scott G MacLeod

In this article we will deal with some verses that omit the word ‘Jesus’. It is very important to notice when the Spirit of God uses compound names for the Lord Jesus Christ and the context of those chapters. Please note that my comments are in blue.

EXAMPLE #1

Matthew 8:29  And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?. (KJV)

Matthew 8:29  And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” (ESV)

The name ‘Son of God’ brings before us our eternal Lord. Here in Matthew 8:29 there is a clear link that Jesus is the Son of God! Why remove that?

EXAMPLE #2

Matthew 16:20  Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.. (KJV)

Matthew 16:20  Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. (ESV)

The name ‘the Christ’ brings before us the Messiah or Anointed One of the Old Testament promised for 1000’s of years. Here in Matthew 16:20 we have a clear declaration that Jesus is the Messiah! Why remove that?

EXAMPLE #3

Matthew 18:2  And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, (KJV)

Matthew 18:2  And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them (ESV)

Why remove Jesus?

EXAMPLE #4

Acts 3:26  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. (KJV)

Acts 3:26  God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” (ESV)

Once again the Word of God is stating the wonderful truth that Jesus is the Son of God? Why remove that?

EXAMPLE #5

Romans 15:8  Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: (KJV)

Romans 15:8  For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, (ESV)

Why remove the word Jesus?

EXAMPLE #6

1Corinthians 5:5  To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. (KJV)

1Corinthians 5:5  you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. (ESV)

The ‘day of the Lord’ is quite different from the ‘day of the Lord Jesus’. The ‘day of the Lord’ has to do with earth during the Tribulation period and Millennial reign of Christ and the ‘day of the Lord Jesus’ has to do with Heaven, where, after the Rapture, the Christians will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ. This distinction is lost by removing the word Jesus!

EXAMPLE #7

2Corinthians 5:18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; (KJV)

2Corinthians 5:18  All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; (ESV)

Why remove the word Jesus?

EXAMPLE #8

Colossians 1:28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: (KJV)

Colossians 1:28  Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. (ESV)

Why remove the word Jesus?

EXAMPLE #9

1Peter 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (KJV)

1Peter 5:10  And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (ESV)
