(01) Servant of …

Was the Lord Jesus Christ a servant of God or a servant of men?

Philippians 2:7 tells us that Christ ‘took upon Him the form of a servant‘. Very important to notice the Greek word that is used here. Of the many different Greek words that are used to describe a slave or servant, the Spirit of God is very careful to use the Greek word ‘doulos’, which means ‘bondservant’ or ‘subjection to the will of another, the complete yielding of the will to the one served’. There is another Greek word, ‘diakonos’, which means, ‘servant or minister’ or  ‘activity in ministry directed by one’s own judgement’.

In answer to the question, Christ is the ‘doulos’ of God and never was or will He be the ‘doulos’ of men! How wonderful to consider, that while He is the bondservant (doulos) of God, He did and does minister (diakonos) to mankind!

Once again, we look to Scripture to prove this, by quoting Mark 10:45 ‘For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered (diakonos) unto, but to minister (diakonos), and to give His life a ransom for many‘.
